Gifting a LEGO botanical set: check the display space first
How to match a LEGO botanical build to the shelf, desk or windowsill your recipient actually has, using the manufacturer's stated sizes.
Picture where the finished model will sit before you choose. A compact, single-piece build suits a busy desk, a tall model needs clear height, and a group of small pieces suits a shelf or windowsill with room to spread out.
LEGO botanical sets are a popular gift for adults who like plants, calm projects or home decor. The building is only half the present, though. Once finished, the model needs a home, and a set that looks modest in its box can take up more room than expected. This guide looks at three sets in the range and how to match one to the space your recipient really has.
Think about height, width and depth
LEGO lists measurements for each finished model. The Orchid (10311) is stated as over 39 cm high, 30 cm wide and 24 cm deep, which is closer to a real potted plant than an ornament. The Bonsai Tree (10281) is far more compact, stated as over 18 cm high, 21 cm long and 20 cm wide, with its own pot and stand.
One centrepiece or several small pieces
Tiny Plants (10329) builds nine separate plants, and LEGO says the tallest, including its pot, is just over 16 cm high. That gives flexibility: the plants can be grouped on a shelf or spread around a room. In my view, this suits someone who enjoys rearranging things, while a single centrepiece suits someone with one clear spot in mind.
Before you decide
All three sets carry LEGO's 18+ age mark and a small parts warning, so they are designed for adult builders. LEGO also notes that Tiny Plants offers easy, medium and advanced builds. If you are unsure, check returns before you buy: LEGO's own shop states that unopened items can be returned within 35 days, though other retailers set their own terms.
